Utpal Patel

Utpal Patel has extensive experience in the field of test engineering and automation. Utpal has held various roles at different companies, including AMI and Dell Technologies.

At AMI, Utpal served as the Director of Global Test Engineering. There, they successfully led global test and automation teams in the USA, Taiwan, and India, delivering AMI's MegaRAC® Enclosure and Server Manageability Solutions to customers with zero critical defects at release time. Utpal also drove the adoption of a shift left, test when ready methodology and incorporated test automation solutions into a CI/CT infrastructure.

During their time at Dell Technologies, Utpal held the position of Test Automation Strategist. In this role, they established the foundation for test automation in the Dell Client Validation group and provided technical leadership to automate Windows OS feature Test Cases, reducing manual effort by nearly 80%. Utpal also facilitated the participation and contribution of Dell's ODM partners in the Test Automation Initiative.

Prior to that, Utpal worked at AMI as a Test Engineering Manager. Utpal delivered test automation using Python, Robot Framework, and Selenium, aiming to reduce human effort and achieve predictable and repeatable test results. Utpal implemented a Traceability Matrix to measure the quality of individual modules and enforced strict test entrance and exit criteria for improved product quality and customer satisfaction.

Earlier in their career, Utpal held multiple roles at Dell, including Lead Firmware Engineer and Lead Test Engineer. Utpal managed and mentored ODMs in the development and delivery of server management firmware, served as a liaison between Taiwan and global teams, and worked on enhancing BMC firmware features. Utpal was also responsible for local development, project management, and release activities for firmware in Dell PowerEdge Servers.

Utpal Patel earned their Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Mumbai from 1996 to 2000. Utpal then pursued further education and obtained a Master of Science degree in Computer Networking from North Carolina State University from 2000 to 2002. In 2004, Utpal also obtained certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) from CISCO.
