Abhinav Ganesh

Vice President Of Society Of Physics Students at American Physical Society

Abhinav Ganesh has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of physics and mathematics. Abhinav has held various research and teaching positions at different institutions.

Starting in 2020, Abhinav served as the Vice President of the Society of Physics Students at the American Physical Society. Abhinav also held the position of Chair of the Competitions Division at APS Physics.

At the UCSB Department of Physics, Abhinav worked as an Undergrad Researcher in Dr. Mazin's Experimental Astrophotonics Lab, where they focused on astrophotonics and conducted experiments with arrayed waveguide gratings, MKID detectors, and superconductors. Abhinav also served as a Learning Assistant for Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity, providing support to students and assisting with course activities. Additionally, they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in Dr. Peng Oh's Plasma Astrophysics Group, studying the impact of cosmic rays on galaxy evolution.

Abhinav's research experience extended beyond UCSB as well. Abhinav was a Caltech SURF Fellow, where they researched astrophotonics and designed photonic chips for exoplanetary technology. At Caltech, they also served as a Caltech Intern/Designer for Project Panoptes, where they contributed to building a telescope unit to detect exoplanets.

In the field of mathematics, Abhinav worked as an Undergrad Researcher for Math Research in Algebraic Geometry at UCSB Mathematics. Abhinav conducted research on algebraic geometry, focusing on singularities, blowups, binary and Lie groups, and their applications to the standard model and string theory.

Abhinav's work experience also includes roles as a Math Problem Solver, Presenter, and Researcher at Cal State Fullerton Math Circle, a USC Data Intern for Helioseismology at USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, and a Grader and Tutor at Kumon North America, Inc. Abhinav was also a member of the UCI Gifted Students Program at UC Irvine.

Overall, Abhinav Ganesh has built a strong foundation in physics and mathematics through their research, teaching, and leadership experiences in various academic institutions.

Abhinav Ganesh began their education at El Toro High School from 2015 to 2019. During this time, they pursued a general field of study. In 2016, Abhinav attended the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY), where they focused on mathematics and computer science until 2018. In 2018, they briefly studied mathematics at Orange Coast College. Abhinav then transferred to Irvine Valley College in 2019 to study applied mathematics for a short period. Currently, Abhinav is enrolled at UC Santa Barbara, starting in 2019 and anticipated to graduate in 2024. At UC Santa Barbara, they are pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in CCS Physics and Mathematics, with a minor in Astronomy.
