Eric Plakun

Eric Plakun is a distinguished psychiatric professional with extensive experience in leadership roles within the American Psychiatric Association since 2001, serving as Area 1 Trustee, Distinguished Life Fellow, and Chair of the Bylaws Committee, among other positions. Plakun was the Director of Biopsychosocial Advocacy and Associate Medical Director at Austen Riggs Center from December 2013 to November 2018, where responsibilities included representing the institution and managing admissions. Additionally, Plakun served as a plaintiffs' expert for a significant federal class action against United Behavioral Health/Optum, contributing to the establishment of treatment standards for mental disorders. Education includes an MD from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, achieved between 1968 and 1972. Plakun is also recognized as a Fellow of the Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry and the American College of Psychiatrists.
