Dr. Maysa Akbar

Dr. Maysa Akbar currently serves as the Chief Diversity Officer and Chief of Psychology in the Public Interest at the American Psychological Association since January 2021. In addition, Dr. Akbar is the author of a book on urban trauma and has led Integrated Wellness Group in New Haven as Founder and CEO since January 2008, overseeing multiple satellite clinics. Previously, Dr. Akbar held the position of Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale School of Medicine from July 2004 to July 2023, focusing on cultural diversity and family therapy. Dr. Akbar's research includes serving as Principal Investigator for the Parent’s First in Medical Setting study, funded by the Yale Nursing School. Dr. Akbar’s education includes a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Saint Louis University and predoctoral/postdoctoral training in Clinical Child Psychology at Yale School of Medicine, among other degrees.
