Michiel Klein Swormink has extensive experience in the publishing industry. Michiel has held various roles at different companies throughout their career. Michiel started as a Classics Teacher at Stedelijk Gymnasium in 1999 before transitioning to the publishing industry. At ProQuest, they worked as an Editorial Assistant for a brief period in 2000. From 2000 to 2004, Michiel was a Senior Acquisitions Editor at Brill Academic Publishers, where they managed a leading publication program in humanities and spearheaded digital projects. Michiel then became a Publishing Manager at Brill, overseeing the product portfolio in humanities and directing the US editorial and production departments from 2005 to 2009.
In 2010, Michiel joined De Gruyter as an Editorial Director, responsible for the product portfolio in humanities and social sciences. Michiel later became the Senior Editorial Director, managing the company's humanities and social sciences division and implementing a digital product strategy. During this time, they launched online educational resources and research tools. From 2017 to 2019, they worked as the Director of Business Development at HighWire Press, Inc., where they established partnerships with academic and professional organizations to provide digital content services and advised clients on content and data strategies.
Most recently, Michiel served as the Director of Publishing Operations at ASHP. Michiel led all operational functions, including strategy, finance, information technology, product management, and business development. Michiel implemented tools for business analytics and customer relationship management, as well as launched several new digital B2B drug information products. In June 2022, they were promoted to Senior Director of Publishing Operations and Business Development, further expanding their responsibilities in the company.

Michiel Klein Swormink's education history begins in 1998 when they enrolled at the University of Cambridge. Michiel pursued an MPhil in Classics and completed their studies in 1999. Prior to this, from 1991 to 1998, Michiel attended Radboud University, where they obtained an MA in Classics. In 1997, they briefly studied at the University of Münster during the Sommersemester.
