Maxim Eckmann serves as the Chair of Anesthesiology at UT Health San Antonio, overseeing a large academic enterprise of over 200 members with a budget exceeding $50 million since September 2008. Previous roles at the institution include Interim Chair of Anesthesiology, Faculty in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, and various leadership positions in Pain Medicine from 2011 to 2021. Maxim has contributed significantly to clinical research as the Vice Chair of Clinical Research and has held numerous leadership positions within professional organizations, including serving as a board member for the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. Educationally, Maxim holds a fellowship in Pain Medicine from UT Health San Antonio and an MD from Baylor College of Medicine, as well as a BS in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

The American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA Pain Medicine) is one of the largest subspecialty medical societies in anesthesiology with nearly 5,000 members in 60 countries and 6 continents.
