Amy Hasselkus has a diverse work experience in the field of speech-language pathology. Amy began their career as a speech-language pathologist at Pinnacle Health Systems, where they diagnosed and treated individuals with speech, language, and swallowing disorders in various settings. Amy worked at Pinnacle Health Systems from 1995 to 2001. After that, they joined the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as an Associate Director, providing professional consultation to members and consumers on speech-language pathology issues in health care. Amy also served as an internal expert on health literacy and patient-provider communication. Amy Hasselkus worked at ASHA from 2001 to 2012. Amy then had adjunct instructor roles at George Mason University and Lord Fairfax Community College from 2012 to 2019. Additionally, they worked as an independent contractor for ASHA, developing journal self-study continuing education products from 2014 to 2019. In 2015, they also worked as an independent consultant for Western Schools, assisting in planning a new line of speech-language pathology continuing education courses. Currently, they hold the position of Director of CE Standards & Compliance at ASHA, starting in May 2019.
Amy Hasselkus completed their Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Communication Disorders at the University of Virginia from 1987 to 1991. Amy then pursued a Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders at The University of Georgia, which they completed from 1992 to 1994. Later, from 2008 to 2012, Amy obtained another Master of Arts degree, this time in Communication, from George Mason University.
