Richard Ellery is general counsel and secretary, leading Legal, Audit, AUL Reinsurance Management Services and Compliance, and Government Affairs. He is a member of the OneAmerica Executive Council. Rich joined OneAmerica in 1997.
He began his career as an intern at American United Life Insurance Co., moving on to a counsel role with the employee benefits line of business, while also advising the investments area in relation to its real estate and private placement portfolios. He was exposed to securities law practice early in his career and became chief compliance officer of OneAmerica Funds, Inc., as well as chief counsel and secretary for OneAmerica Securities, Inc., in 2007. Rich has also led legislative affairs efforts for the enterprise since 2005.
He was promoted to senior vice president and general counsel in 2017, shortly after completing the Harvard University Advanced Management Program 189 in Cambridge, Mass.
A graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., and of the Indiana University McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis, Rich has also held the FINRA Series 7 and 24 designations. He was a graduate of Class XXXIII of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series and was named one of the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 in 2011. He was a finalist for Indianapolis’ Best and Brightest by Junior Achievement in 2011 and 2012.
Rich is active in his church and coaches youth baseball, basketball and soccer. He has served in leadership roles for numerous nonprofits.
