Thi Nguyen-Southern

Thi Nguyen-Southern is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in higher education law. Serving as Senior Associate General Counsel at American University since June 1995, Thi provides counsel on human resources and employee relations issues, develops and revises university policies, and represents the institution in mediations and before regulatory bodies. Previously, Thi held the position of Director of Judicial Affairs and Mediation Services at The American University, overseeing the university's judicial system and student affairs policies. Prior legal experience includes a role as a Legal Consultant for UNHCR where Thi advised asylum-seekers and governments on international law. Thi also worked as a law clerk, focusing on legal research across various fields. Thi holds a Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Tulane University.
