Kathleen Richards has a diverse work experience, beginning in 2003 when they were a Research Assistant in Social Psychology and a Teaching Assistant in Psychology at New York University. In 2004, they were a Research Assistant in Developmental and Cultural Psychology at the University of Delaware. In 2008, they were an Adjunct Professor in Psychology and English at Technical Career Institutes, a Research Assistant in Second Language Acquisition at The Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY), and a Senior Research Associate & Content Managing Editor, Language and Literacy at Amplify. In 2011, they were an English Language Editor at AJE - American Journal Experts. From 2018 to 2021, they were a Senior Learning Scientist, Language Arts, Social Studies, and World Languages at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and a Senior Learning Scientist and Literacy and Language Learning Scientist at LXD Research and Amira Learning, respectively.

Kathleen Richards obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Linguistics from The Graduate Center, City University of New York between 2008 and 2011. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology, French, and Sociology from New York University between 2003 and 2007. In addition, they obtained a Negotiation Foundations certification from LinkedIn in May 2019.
