Gale Wichmann has a diverse work experience. From 2012 to present, they have held the roles of Senior Director Program Management, Director Biology, and Senior Scientist at Amyris. From 2006 to 2012, they worked at Amyris Inc as Scientist III, Scientist II, and Scientist I. From 2003 to 2006, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Berkeley in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology, lab of Dr. Steve Lindow. During this time, they studied a novel protein in the plant pathogenic bacteria Pseudomonas syringae that is able to trigger programmed cell death in the fungus Neurospora crassa.
Gale Wichmann obtained a B.A. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Northwestern University between 1991 and 1995. Following that, they earned a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Chicago in 2002.
