Elliott Downing has held various engineering and teaching roles since 2000. From 2000 to 2002, they were a Teaching Assistant (Dynamics) at LeTourneau University, where they taught the weekly three hour help session, created, administered, and graded weekly quizzes, and created and graded exam problems. In 2002, they also took on a Research Assistant role at the same university, designing experiments for undergraduate education, integrating data collection systems and sensors for measuring motion, force, and bio-signals, and authoring accompanying documentation. From 2003 to 2007, they were a Cabinet Maker at Silver Star Cabinets. From 2007 to 2010, they were an R&D Mechanical/Hardware Engineer at Hewlett-Packard. Finally, from 2010 to the present, they have been a Mechanical Engineer and ME Technical Lead at Andrews Cooper.

Elliott Downing received their B.S. in Engineering - Mechanical from LeTourneau University in 2003. Elliott then went on to pursue a M.S. in Bioengineering from Arizona State University, which they completed in 2006.
