Joe Lonsdale

Joe Lonsdale is an American entrepreneur and technology investor. Joe is a founder of 8VC, a technology investment firm, and a co-founder of Palantir Technologies, Addepar, and OpenGov, and was an early investor in a number of companies, including the e-commerce platform Wish.

Lonsdale grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Joe's father was an engineer and their mother was a teacher. Joe attended Cupertino High School before enrolling at Stanford University, where they studied computer science and economics. After graduation, they worked as a software engineer at Clarium Capital, a hedge fund founded by Peter Thiel.

In 2009, Lonsdale co-founded The Seasteading Institute, whose goal is to build floating cities that would be independent from existing political systems. Joe also served on the board of directors of Strive for College, a non-profit organization that helps low-income students get into and succeed in college.

In 2011, Lonsdale co-founded Formation 8, a technology investment firm. Four years later, they co-founded Addepar, a financial technology company. In 2016, they co-founded Anduin Ventures, another technology investment firm.

Lonsdale is also a board member of ONEHope Wine, a California-based wine company that donates a portion of its profits to charitable causes.

Joe Lonsdale has a BS in Computer Science from Stanford University.
