Robert M. Gathings

MOHS Surgeon at Anne Arundel Dermatology

Dr. Rob Gathings is a fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in the treatment of skin cancer with the Mohs technique and complex facial reconstruction. He received advanced training during an intensive fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at Surgical Dermatology Group in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Gathings obtained board certification in dermatology after completing a dermatology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Previously, he graduated magna cum laude with an undergraduate degree in Engineering at the University of Mississippi and completed his medical training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. Gathings is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery. He has co-authored numerous scientific publications in the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology and JAMA Dermatology, and presented at the American College of Mohs Surgery’s national meeting. Dr. Gathings is also a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, and was given the Mark T. Smith Memorial Award in medical school for delivering compassionate care in medicine. He has an interest in health policy and completed the American Medical Association’s Government Relations Internship Program where he served as a health policy analyst for BGR Group in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Gathings treats Mohs surgical patients at Knoxville Dermatology Group offices in West Knoxville and Sevierville. When he is away from the office, Dr. Gathings enjoys spending time with his wife, Leaha, and daughter, Lucy. He also enjoys spending time outdoors, sports and traveling.
