Sunny Sanderson

Board Member at Aotearoa New Zealand Seaweed Association

Sunny is a former Director at Kelp Blue, which grows giant kelp forests (Macrocystis pyrifera) at commercial scale to restore ocean health through carbon sequestration, de-acidification, and increased biodiversity. Her past projects include studying zoonotic malaria transmission and land use change in Indonesia, livelihood impacts of African Swine Fever in the Philippines and Timor-Leste, and investigating the impacts of large-scale agriculture on Native Customary Rights landowners in Malaysia. Sunny strongly believes in the importance of taking a holistic, integrative approach to this sector’s development ~one that equally values sustainable livelihoods, ocean health, and long-term thinking.
