Nicolas Couronneau

Director of AI Product at apheris AI

Nicolas Couronneau has a strong background in AI product management and engineering. Nicolas is currently working as the Director of AI Product at Apheris since June 2023. Prior to this, they held various roles at Graphcore from 2020 to 2023, including Director of Product Management, Developer Experience, Senior Product Manager, AI Applications TensorFlow Team Lead, and AI Engineer.

Before their time at Graphcore, Nicolas worked at FocalPoint from 2015 to 2020, where they served as a Principal Machine Learning Engineer and Principal Scientist. In these roles, they contributed to all technical tasks required when starting a new business, managed the software stack and technical architecture of projects, and promoted software engineering best practices.

Nicolas also gained experience at NVIDIA from 2013 to 2015 as a Senior Algorithms Engineer, designing and evaluating signal processing algorithms for wireless communications. Additionally, they significantly improved software development cycles and implemented Continuous Integration.

Nicolas started their career in 2006 at BAE Systems as a Higher Scientist, specializing in information engineering and working on the application of Bayesian methods to machine learning and sensor fusion. During their time at BAE Systems, they also developed and implemented a real-time collision avoidance module for an unmanned ground vehicle as part of the Ministry of Defence's Autonomous Vehicles Grand Challenge.

Nicolas pursued their academic journey at the University of Cambridge, where they completed a PhD in Physics from 2009 to 2013. Their thesis focused on performance analysis of assisted-GNSS receivers, statistical analysis, and improvement of positioning methods using sensor fusion. Nicolas utilized Bayesian and non-parametric methods for statistical analysis of radio-positioning signals.

Nicolas Couronneau has an extensive education history in the fields of physics and electrical engineering. Nicolas began their academic journey in 2003 at CentraleSupélec, where they pursued a degree in electrical engineering. Nicolas attended the institution until 2006, completing their studies and earning an "Ingénieur" degree.

In 2005, Nicolas also had the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in electrical, electronics, and communications engineering at Heriot-Watt University. Nicolas successfully completed a Master of Science (MSc) in those fields in 2006.

Continuing their educational pursuits, Nicolas enrolled in the University of Cambridge in 2009. Over the course of four years, they dedicated himself to the study of physics, culminating in the completion of their PhD in 2013.

Through their academic journey at CentraleSupélec, Heriot-Watt University, and the University of Cambridge, Nicolas Couronneau has developed a strong foundation in both electrical engineering and physics.
