Job description

A Day in the Life:

As our mechanical engineer you’ll be the one bringing our product designs from paper to prototype and eventually to launch! You’ll work with the CTO directly to review initial designs, build out 3D digital models, run stress tests, research materials and contribute to budgetary planning based on the costs associated and build clear product roadmaps. In this role you will not only collaborate with our Montreal team, but our manufacturers in China. This will require flexibility on your end in terms of the hours you work, but we will support you in finding a sustainable rhythm.

  • You will be the lead mechanical engineer guiding a small team and collaborating with other engineers at our Chinese factory
  • Deconstruct designs to create individual, manufacturable parts
  • Review designs with a critical eye to ensure high quality
  • Research materials and provide cost breakdowns
  • Create design documentation: 3D model, manufacturing drawing, assembly drawing.
  • Test prototypes (ex: stress tests)
  • Ensure designs are compliant with regional guidelines (certifications)
  • Collaborate with local and international teams

What Makes you Ideal:

  • Advanced knowledge of CAD/CAM software
  • Advanced mechanical design (DFM) and analysis skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes: die casting, machining etc.
  • Experience performing stress tests and other valuable tests on prototypes
    • Static and cyclical analysis
  • Experience working with budgets and running cost analysis on materials
  • Critical thinker and enjoy innovating regularly
  • Team-player with a desire to go above and beyond
  • Comfortable with a non-traditional schedule
  • Work in a transportation industry is a plus
  • Knowledge of regional design and manufacturing regulations is a bonus as well
  • Comfortable leading projects and developing project roadmaps
  • Self starter and self driven
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good documentation organizational skills

Good to have:

  • Peng in good standing with the OIQ
  • Experience in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or electric vehicle field
  • Experience with government funding application
  • Experience working with 3rd party factories in China
  • Experience performing CFD analysis
    • Heat sync and motor controller design
