Shihao Wang

Senior Software Engineer, Motion Planning, Controls & Simulation at Applied Intuition

Shihao Wang has a strong background in software engineering and robotics. Shihao currently holds the position of Senior Software Engineer in Motion Planning, Controls, and Simulation at Applied Intuition since February 2022. Prior to this role, Shihao worked as a Robotics Software Engineer in Planning and Controls at WeRide.ai from January 2021 to February 2022. In this role, they developed path-planning algorithms for obstacle avoidance and vehicle following. Shihao also worked as a Software Engineer in Planning and Controls at DeepRoute.ai from June 2020 to August 2020, where they integrated a full longitudinal and lateral dynamical model into the vehicle's simulation program. Before joining the industry, Shihao gained research experience at Duke University and Cornell University. At Duke University from June 2018 to December 2018, they proposed a unified motion planning framework for humanoid fall mitigation. From September 2016 to May 2018, they proposed an optimal control strategy for fall protection using a simplified three-link model with real-time hand contact planning. At Cornell University from September 2014 to June 2015, Shihao researched the dynamics and control of self-balancing bicycles. Prior to their academic pursuits, they worked as an Assistant Product Manager at Synjones from July 2012 to August 2012, where they assisted in the development of an online university project, including product planning and structure modeling.

Shihao Wang completed their Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Beihang University from the years 2010 to 2014. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Master of Engineering degree with a specialization in Dynamics & Control at Cornell University, which they accomplished between 2014 and 2015. Afterward, Shihao Wang continued their education at Duke University, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Robotics, specializing in Motion Planning and Legged Locomotion, from 2016 to 2020. In addition to their formal education, they also acquired a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from the International Association for Six Sigma Certification in December 2014.
