Raman Achutharaman

Dr. Raman Achutharaman is Group Vice President of the Joint Operations Leadership Team at Applied Materials. He is responsible for delivering the near-term and longer-term capacity and agility needed to meet growing customer demand for Applied’s products.

Dr. Achutharaman has a diverse technical background and a strong track record for commercializing successful products. Recently, as Head of Technology, Strategy and Marketing for the Semiconductor Products Group, he led the development of the technology roadmap, creation of the strategic plan to strengthen Applied’s leadership in core wafer fabrication equipment markets, and communication of the vision, strategy, and success to stakeholders. Prior to that, as General Manager of the Etch and Selective Removal Products business unit, he led the development and commercialization of the successful Sym3 Etch system, growing etch revenue to over $2B and gaining more than 15 pts of conductor etch market share. As General Manager of the RTP product group, he led the development of the Vantage Radiance system, the basis of Applied’s leadership in thermal processing.

Dr. Achutharaman received his undergraduate degree in metallurgical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India and his doctorate in materials science and engineering from the University of Minnesota. He has published more than 20 papers, review articles and book chapters, and holds multiple patents.
