Michael Isakov

Michael Isakov has a diverse work experience. Michael currently serves as the Director of Quantitative Research at Arbol, where they have been since July 2022. In this role, they have developed new products in the energy derivatives and insurance space and designed algorithms for portfolio simulation, pricing, and risk management. Michael also conducts research on machine learning approaches for weather forecasting and simulation.

Prior to their current position, Michael worked as a Senior Data Scientist at Arbol from July 2022 to July 2023. During this time, they developed two new products in the energy derivatives and insurance space, and their algorithms are currently being used to price incoming deals.

Before joining Arbol, Michael was at Harvard University, where they held various roles. From February 2020 to June 2022, they worked as an Undergraduate Researcher, advised by Xiao-Li Meng in the Harvard Statistics Department. Michael generated Bayesian probability models and performed simulations for political polling, developed frameworks for combining multiple data sources, and received commendations for their teaching as a Teaching Fellow for various statistics courses.

Michael also worked as an Undergraduate Researcher at Harvard Medical School from December 2018 to December 2021. In this role, they conducted statistical analysis on large genomic datasets, designed and implemented a PCA algorithm, and contributed to the open-source statistical package "Admixtools".

Michael also had internship experiences at The D. E. Shaw Group as a Quantitative Analyst Intern in 2021 and at Arbol as a Data Analyst Intern from September 2020 to June 2021.

Lastly, during their undergraduate years at Harvard, Michael worked as an Undergraduate Researcher in the Math Department, where they studied the effect of priming and environment on academic dishonesty and conducted an experiment with over 250 participants.
