Po-Yuan Tung

Principal Research Scientist, Single Cell Assay Dev, Multiomics at Arc Institute

Po-Yuan Tung has a diverse work experience in the field of molecular biology and genetics. They began their career as a Research Assistant at National Yang Ming University in 2007 and worked there until 2009. Following that, they joined UC Davis Medical Center as a Graduate Student Researcher, where they focused on studying novel pluripotency related oncogenes and identifying their underlying mechanisms. From 2014 to 2018, they worked at The University of Chicago as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Postdoctoral Scholar, where they specialized in studying technical variations in single-cell RNA-seq data.

In 2018, they joined Berkeley Lights, Inc. as a Scientist, and over the years, they progressed to the roles of Senior Scientist, Manager, and eventually Senior Manager, Molecular Biology. During their time at Berkeley Lights, they managed teams and collaborated with various departments to develop methodologies and reagents for genetic and biological studies using the Beacon platform.

In 2022, Po-Yuan Tung transitioned to Twist Bioscience as a Senior Staff Scientist. They worked there until 2023 when they joined Arc Institute as a Principal Research Scientist. Their work at Arc Institute focused on the development of single-cell assay methods for MultiOmics analysis.

Po-Yuan Tung holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Cell Biology and Human Anatomy from the University of California, Davis, which was obtained from 2009 to 2014. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Science (MS) in Cell Biology and Anatomy from National Taiwan University from 2005 to 2007. Their undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Zoology/Life Science, also from National Taiwan University, achieved between 2001 and 2005. In addition, they have obtained certifications in Leadership Communication for Maximum Impact: Storytelling, Leadership Through Social Influence, and High Performance Collaboration: Leadership, Teamwork, and Negotiation from Coursera in 2021.
