Valerie Schmalz

Valerie Schmalz has a diverse work experience in the field of communications and journalism. Valerie started their career as a Publicist/Writer/Journalist at Ignatius Press in 2003 and later became a Freelance Journalist at the National Catholic Register in 2005. In 2006, they joined Feminists for Life of America as the Chief Operating Officer/Program Director, where they oversaw program operations and content development. From 2008 to 2010, Valerie worked as a Contributing Editor at Our Sunday Visitor Newsweekly. Valerie then joined the Archdiocese of San Francisco and took on various roles, including Assistant Editor at Catholic San Francisco Newspaper, Interim Communications Director, Managing Editor of Catholic San Francisco Magazine, and Director of the Office of Human Life & Dignity. Throughout their career, Valerie has demonstrated a strong commitment to Catholic social teaching and has been recognized for their award-winning articles and investigative analysis news writing.

Valerie Schmalz holds a Master of Science degree from Georgetown University, where they specialized in the School of Foreign Service. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government at the University of San Francisco. Valerie also spent a year studying abroad at University College Cork in Ireland, focusing on Philosophy and History. During this period, they studied various subjects such as the theory of knowledge, logic, and the economic history of Russia and Ireland.
