Ester Fernandez-Salas has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Ester currently holds the position of Executive Director R&D Biology at Arcus Biosciences, a role they started in February 2023. Prior to this, they served as the Senior Director R&D Biology at Arcus Biosciences from January 2021 to February 2023. Before joining Arcus Biosciences, Ester worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb as a Senior Principal Scientist from May 2018 to January 2021. Ester also served as an Investigator at the University of Michigan from August 2013 to April 2018. In addition, they held the position of Managing Director at the Michigan Center for Therapeutic Innovation from January 2016 to March 2018. Ester's previous experience includes working as a Senior Director at Allergan from October 2000 to June 2013. Ester began their career with a Fulbright and Fogarty Fellowship at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) from February 1996 to October 2000 and as a Fulbright Fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center from July 1994 to February 1996.
Ester Fernandez-Salas earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1989. Ester then went on to complete a Doctorate (Ph.D.) and Master of Science (MS) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as well as Cell Biology, from the same institution between 1989 and 1994. Following this, they pursued a Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences from 1994 to 1996.
