Kristin Sikkink

Director of Research at Arima Genomics

Kristin Sikkink has a diverse work experience in the field of genomics and molecular biology. Kristin is currently the Director of Research at Arima Genomics, starting in January 2023. Prior to this role, they served as a Scientist II from August 2021 to January 2023 and as a Scientist I from August 2020 to August 2021.

Before joining Arima Genomics, Kristin worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Mississippi from April 2018 to December 2019. In this role, they focused on bluebird mRNA isolation, troubleshooting molecular protocols, and optimizing library creation and sequencing strategies for RNA-sequencing. Kristin also conducted RNA-seq analysis, co-expression network analysis, and trained graduate students. During their time at the university, they authored a peer-reviewed manuscript and presented their findings at international conferences.

Prior to their work at the University of Mississippi, Kristin was a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Minnesota from September 2014 to March 2018. Here, they designed RNA-seq experiments and analyzed gene expression variability during development in butterflies. Kristin also mentored undergraduate students, provided training for RNA-seq analysis, and collaborated on various research projects. Additionally, they received grants for their work and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications.

Kristin's work experience also includes being a Graduate Student at the University of Oregon from September 2007 to September 2014. During this time, they conducted experiments on evolutionary and physiological responses to stress, established collaborations, and mentored undergraduate students. Kristin designed and implemented RNA-sequencing experiments and published multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Lastly, Kristin started their research career as an Undergraduate Researcher at the University of Arizona from May 2004 to August 2007. Here, they assisted with fieldwork, DNA isolation, and positional cloning in maize. Kristin also designed an independent honors thesis project, examined gene expression, and contributed to a published research paper.

Overall, Kristin Sikkink has a strong background in genomics research, with expertise in RNA-sequencing, project design, data analysis, and mentoring. Kristin has a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and communicating their findings at conferences.

Kristin Sikkink pursued their higher education starting in 2003 at the University of Arizona, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Kristin then continued their academic journey at the University of Oregon from 2007 to 2014, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biology.
