Elizabeth King

Elizabeth King is a Commercial Development Specialist at Arlington Economic Development. Prior to their current position, they served as a Senior Redevelopment Ready Communities Planner (Senior Program Manager) at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation from November 2020 to September 2021. In this role, they were responsible for managing relationships with 79 community partners to provide them with technical assistance around streamlining processes for a business-friendly environment, placemaking, zoning, and community engagement in order to help them reach Redevelopment Ready Communities certification. Elizabeth also allocated and managed over $321,000 of Technical Assistance Project grants, resulting in the successful adoption of updated Economic Development Strategies, Master Plans, Zoning Ordinances, and Marketing Strategies by municipalities across Michigan.

Elizabeth has a strong understanding of business and real estate underwriting and financing, which they obtained through their professional experience and Economic Development Finance Professional Certification (National Development Council). Elizabeth is also familiar with real estate and economic development tools including Brownfields, Community Revitalization Program, CDBG, Tax Increment Financing, Tax Abatements, Neighborhood Enterprise Zones, Principal Shopping Districts, Business Innovation Zones, Industrial Facilities Tax Exemptions, and more.

In addition to their work with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Elizabeth has also presented to and trained over 130 elected and appointed municipal officials and staff members from across Michigan on Economic Development, Planning, Zoning, and Development Review Best Practices. Elizabeth King holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Economic Development from Wayne State University. Elizabeth also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Saginaw Valley State University. In addition, they have a certification in Economic Development from Wayne State University.
