Ruth Carlos has a strong background in radiology and academia. Ruth is currently serving as the President of the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American College of Radiology. Previously, they held various roles at the University of Michigan Medical School, including Professor of Radiology and Associate Professor. Ruth also served as the President of the Association of University Radiologists in 2012.
Ruth Carlos began their education at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where they obtained their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from 1989 to 1993. Ruth then pursued further training at the same institution, completing a Residency in Diagnostic Radiology from 1993 to 1997. Concurrently, they also pursued a Fellowship in Diagnostic Radiology from 1993 to 1997 at the same school. Following this, Ruth Carlos attended the University of Michigan Medical School from 1997 to 1998, where they completed a Residency in MRI and Ultrasound. Continuing their education, they attended the University of Michigan School of Public Health from 1999 to 2001, earning a Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis. Additionally, during the same period, they were engaged in a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholarship at the University of Michigan Medical School.
