Emily Butler

Conversations Curator at Art Basel

Emily Butler is the Conversations Curator at Art Basel. Emily has previously worked as an exhibitions assistant at the Whitechapel Gallery, the British Council, and the Centre Pompidou. Emily is also an independent curator, writer, and translator.

Butler has curated a number of successful exhibitions, including Gilbert & George: Jack Freak Pictures (2010), Flicker (2009), and The Third Dimension (2008). Emily has also written extensively on contemporary art, with a focus on British artists. In addition to their curatorial work, they are also a translator, and has translated works by French artists such as Marcel Duchamp and Pierre Bismuth.

Emily Butler has a Master's Degree in Cultural and Creative Industries from King's College London, a Bachelor's Degree in Art Theirtory from the Courtauld Institute of Art at the University of London, and A-levels in Art, Theirtory, Economics, Maths, French from St. George's School in Harpenden, United Kingdom. Emily also has a Brevet des Collèges from Lycée-Collège des Pontonniers in Strasbourg, France.
