Akinori Mitani has a diverse work experience in the field of technology. Akinori is currently working as a Lead Machine Learning Engineer at Artera since January 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Google from August 2018 to January 2022, first as a Software Engineer and then as a Senior Software Engineer.

In 2012, Akinori worked as a Research Assistant at RIKEN, where they analyzed electrophysiology data to study plasticity of the barrel cortex in rats with trimmed whiskers. This work resulted in a publication, for which they are a co-first author.

From 2006 to 2009, Akinori served as a JMO Committee Member at the Japan Mathematical Olympiad Organization. In this role, they were involved in writing problems for the Olympiad, organizing selection camps and training camps. Akinori also represented Japan at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Spain in 2008, where they contributed to problem voting, translating problems to Japanese, and scoring Japanese students' answers.

Akinori Mitani completed their education journey in two notable institutions. Starting in 2006, they attended The University of Tokyo, where they pursued Medicine. Akinori successfully completed their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2012. Following this, they pursued further academic excellence at UC San Diego from 2012 to 2018. At UC San Diego, Akinori Mitani focused on Neuroscience, ultimately earning their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree.
