Michael Demars, PhD has extensive experience in the field of scientific research and medical writing. Michael is currently working as an Associate Scientific Director at ArticulateScience since June 2020. Prior to this, they worked at the same company as a Medical Writer from April 2015 to March 2017.

Before joining ArticulateScience, Michael worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from February 2012 to April 2015. During this time, they conducted research on the role of endogenous nicotinic acetylcholine receptor modulators in the development of neocortical circuits and visual cortical plasticity. Michael also designed and developed tools for cell-type specific over-expression and microRNA mediated knockdown of proteins and probes for double fluorescent in situ hybridization (DISH). Additionally, they assessed endophenotypes of psychiatric disorders in mice through behavioral tests.

Prior to their postdoctoral fellowship, Michael served as a Graduate Research Associate at the University of Illinois at Chicago. From 2006 to 2012, they investigated the impact of Alzheimer's disease linked mutations and Alzheimer's disease related proteins on the development, maturation, and viability of adult neural stem cells in mouse models. Michael also utilized in vivo models and developed or modified in vitro assays for assessing neural stem cell function in disease and response to drugs or metabolites.

Overall, Michael Demars, PhD has a strong background in scientific research and medical writing, with a focus on neurobiology and psychiatric disorders.

Michael Demars, PhD, obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Exercise Physiology from the University at Buffalo, where they studied from 2000 to 2005. Michael then pursued their academic career at the University of Illinois Chicago, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Neuroscience, completing their studies between 2006 and 2012.
