Christopher Smith has extensive legal and financial expertise, currently serving as Chief Counsel for Private Sector Investment & Treasury Operations at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank since September 2017. Prior to this role, Christopher held various positions at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, including Senior Attorney and Associate, from May 2006 to June 2017. Earlier experience includes an Associate role at White & Case LLP and volunteer service with the Peace Corps. Christopher's educational background includes a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School, a Master’s Degree in International Economics/Russian & Eurasian Studies from Johns Hopkins SAIS, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Political Science from Tufts University, along with studies at the University of Oxford and Middlebury College.
