Matthew Makai has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over several years. Matthew is currently working as the VP of Developer Relations & Growth Marketing at AssemblyAI since April 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Ubiquity Ventures as an Extended Team Member since July 2017, where they focused on investing in smart hardware and machine intelligence applications. In 2012, they founded Full Stack Python and served as its Creator.

From 2014 to 2023, Matthew Makai held multiple roles at Twilio, including Senior Director, Builder Content, Director, Developer Content, Developer Voices, Senior Manager, Developer Evangelism Manager - West Coast, and Developer Evangelist. Matthew led teams and contributed to organic website traffic and the growth of the developer-led sales motion.

Before Twilio, Matthew Makai worked as a Managing Consultant at Excella Consulting from September 2010 to November 2013. Matthew built Python/Django apps for clients, managed the Python practice, and handled business development. During this time, they also traveled to 30 cities across the US to learn from software developers and tech startups.

Matthew Makai started their career in the technology industry as a Senior Associate at Sapient Government Services in December 2009. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton from July 2007 to December 2009, where they contributed to the development of a biometric web app for the Department of Defense.

Matthew began their professional journey as a Programmer Analyst at Freddie Mac in June 2005, gaining valuable experience in the mortgage industry. Matthew then worked as a College Intern at Freddie Mac in 2004 and as a Research Assistant at James Madison University from September 2003 to May 2004.

Matthew Makai completed their education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from James Madison University from 2001 to 2005. Matthew then pursued a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Virginia Tech between 2005 and 2008. Furthermore, Matthew obtained another Master of Science degree in Management of Information Technology from the University of Virginia from 2009 to 2010. Prior to their college education, they attended Morristown High School from 1997 to 2001.
