Thomas Watson

As a small child, he dreamt of becoming an industry leader in hardware asset management….

No, not really. he liked coding, playing in a band, and hated having a boss. He had to put his UW English degree to work, so he started a company with a friend in college to revolutionize online commerce called Market Matrix.

He learned a ton about software development, and that it’s hard to get people to spend money on stuff they built. The company didn’t make it, but he got the taste for entrepreneurship. It stuck with him.

Eventually he ended up writing code for Micropath, a Washington company that did large-scale inventories. He scanned assets, collected data, normalized it, and delivered reports….over and over again. He knew he could build tools to allow customers to get better control over asset tracking and put us out of business.

So, he did. In 2003, a buddy and him started AMI and built AssetTrack. It took them a year to land the first major account, Unisys. Since then, they grown AMI into the industry leader in hardware asset management.
