Liz Mering has a diverse work experience in various organizations. In 2007, they worked as a Wildlife Scent Detection Dog Handler at Northern Arizona University. From 2008 to 2010, they served as a Research Assistant at the same university, conducting bat surveys and telemetry studies. In 2011, they worked as a Mine Field Technician at Northern Arizona University. In 2012, Liz worked as a Bat/White-nose Syndrome Field Technician at Colorado Parks and Wildlife, where they conducted cave and mine surveys for bats. In 2014, they were an Extern at the Oregon Supreme Court. From 2015 to 2016, they served as a Legal Clerk at both the Department of the Interior, Regional Office of the Solicitor, and Ocean Conservancy. Liz joined Alaska Legal Services Corporation in 2017 as a Native Law Staff Attorney, a role they held until 2021. In 2021, they became the Advocacy Director at Cook Inletkeeper and later transitioned to the role of Associate General Counsel at the Association of Village Council Presidents in 2022.
Liz Mering has a strong educational background in environmental and natural resources law. Liz obtained their Doctor of Law (JD) degree from Lewis and Clark Law School, where they studied from 2013 to 2016. Prior to that, they pursued their interest in forestry and completed a Master of Science (MS) degree in Forestry from Northern Arizona University from 2008 to 2010. Liz Mering's educational journey began with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Biology, General from McDaniel College, which they completed from 2003 to 2006. In addition to their academic achievements, Liz Mering also holds a certification in Professional Research from LexisNexis.
