Melissa Kocelko has a diverse work experience. Melissa began their career in 2014 as an Extra Dosage Instructor for Reading In Motion. From 2015 to 2021, they held various positions at the Chicago Children's Museum, including Information Planning and Data Administrator, Manager of Guest and Member Operations, and Supervisor of Guest and Member Services. In 2018, they were an Administrative Assistant at the University of Denver. In 2019, they were a Media Assistant for the Veteran's Legacy Program and a Collections Inventory Intern for History Colorado. In 2020, they were a Curatorial Intern at the Elmhurst Art Museum: Art, Education & Architecture. In 2021, they were a Cultural Resource Outreach Intern for the National Park Service and a Senior Project Coordinator for Sweet Grass Consulting, LLC. Melissa is currently a Coordinator of Member Communications and Engagement for the Association of Science and Technology Centers.

Melissa Kocelko completed a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Denver in 2020. Melissa had previously obtained a Bachelor of Arts in History and Anthropology from the University of Illinois Chicago in 2013. Prior to that, they earned an Associate of Arts from Harper College in 2010. In addition, Kocelko has obtained several certifications from the Society for American Archaeology and the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program.
