Principal Scientist, Bioinformatics at Astellas Gene Therapies

Mahjoubeh Jalali has extensive work experience in the field of bioinformatics. Mahjoubeh is currently employed at Astellas Gene Therapies, where they hold the position of Principal Scientist, Bioinformatics. Prior to this role, they served as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist and a Bioinformatics Scientist II at the same company.

From 2016 to 2020, Mahjoubeh worked as a Bioinformatics Postdoctoral research fellow at the Pacific Northwest Research Institute. During this time, they gained valuable experience in the field.

In 2016, Mahjoubeh also worked as a Genomic Consultant at the South African Medical Research Council and Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), SANBI. Here, they were involved in consulting projects related to Technology Innovation Agency-funded initiatives and the Medical Research Council's Strategic Health Innovation Partnerships grant.

Before that, in 2014, Mahjoubeh worked as a Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the South African National Bioinformatics Institute. During their time there, they contributed to various informatics projects and conducted applied genomics research in areas such as muscular dystrophy, ALS, atypical diabetes, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Mahjoubeh's earlier work experience includes a brief role as an Assistant Instructor at Roche in 2013, as well as research positions at the University of Stellenbosch and Synexa Life Sciences from 2008 to 2011.

Mahjoubeh Jalali's education history began in 2005 at the University of the Western Cape, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Applied Biotechnology in 2007. Mahjoubeh then pursued further studies at Stellenbosch University in 2009, completing a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Medical Sciences with a focus on Pathology. In the same period, they also earned a MMedSc (Master of Medical Sciences) degree in Pathology from Stellenbosch University. Finally, from 2011 to 2013, they attended the South African National Bioinformatics Institute (SANBI) and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Bioinformatics.
