Matt Derrick's work experience begins in 2007 with a role in investment management at Badenoch & Clark. In 2010, they joined AMS as a Principal Specialist at Aviva Investors, later becoming a Manager at Deloitte. From 2013 to 2020, Matt worked at ThirtyThree, where they held positions including Client Manager, Senior Client Manager, Client Director, and Joint Head of Client Services. During this time, they managed relationships with major clients and oversaw various projects and campaigns. In 2015, Matt founded Paloma, a cycling apparel brand, where they handled all aspects of business management. Matt then joined PwC in 2020 as the Senior Manager of Consulting Marketing and later became the Head of Marketing - Legal. In 2021, Matt worked as a Brand and Marketing Consultant before assuming the role of Head of Brand and Marketing at Aston Holmes in 2023.

Matt Derrick attended Magdalen College School in Oxford from 1996 to 2001. Matt then went on to Abingdon School, where they studied for three years, from 2001 to 2003. After completing their secondary education, Matt enrolled at Cardiff University/Prifysgol Caerdydd, where they obtained a 2.1 Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Business Management. This period of education at Cardiff University lasted from 2004 to 2007.
