Andrea Gutierrez Maria is an experienced research biologist and lab manager currently at Astrix since June 2023, focusing on the role of AGO2 in repressing transposable elements in quiescent cells and conducting RNAseq analyses. Prior to this, Andrea served as a scientist at Axle Informatics within the National Institutes of Health, characterizing iPSC-derived models to study neurodegenerative disorders. Andrea's expertise includes postdoctoral research at the National Institutes of Health, identifying genes related to hyperaldosteronism and mentoring students, as well as extensive experience in drug discovery and proteomics during a postdoctoral tenure at the University of Sao Paulo. Andrea completed a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Sao Paulo and has previously held roles at Roche and as a high school chemistry teacher.
