Gus Puryear

General Counsel at Asurion

As General Counsel, Gus oversees Asurion’s global legal, compliance and risk management.

Prior to joining Asurion, Gus served for more than nine years as general counsel for a NYSE-listed company based in Nashville. In addition, he previously worked in a variety of political and legislative roles in Washington, D.C., including working with a Vice President of the United States and serving as counsel to both a U.S. senator and the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs’ Special Investigation into illegal and improper fundraising during the 1996 federal elections. Before his work in Washington, Gus was in private practice and served as a clerk to the Honorable Rhesa H. Barksdale of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. Gus earned his law degree with honors from the University of North Carolina and received a B.A. with highest honors from Emory University. He also currently serves as a Director of Truxton Trust, a Nashville-based private bank and trust company.

Gus is active in the Nashville community and has served on the board of numerous charitable and civic organizations, including having served as president of the Economic Club of Nashville. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Law Alumni Association of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
