Bret Peresich

Director, Product Development at Athena Consulting Group

Bret Peresich has over 20 years of experience in Cybersecurity and Software Development. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Information Security from Strayer University; graduating Summa Cum Laude. He is a 10-year Navy veteran and has worked with NIWC (previously known as SPAWAR) since leaving the Navy. He started out with the installation of shipboard network intrusion systems and moved over to legacy application testing for NMCI compatibility. He was a participant on the working group to develop the Unclassified Trusted Network Protect Policy (UTNPP) – which superseded the Navy Firewall Policy. He served as the chairperson for the Legacy Application Security Working Group; working with software developers and program owners to make their software compatible with NMCI desktops.

He then moved on to help Navy Medicine with their Certification and Accreditation of their backbone network. He has been with Navy Medicine (now dissolved and under Defense Health Agency) for 15 years under various lead roles, but chiefly serving as the team lead for the Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) and Security Test and Evaluation (ST&E) team under DIACAP and DIARMF. While conducting cybersecurity testing, Bret identified a need for taking disparate data from the various testing tools to aggregate and evaluate the results. He developed the Cyber Awareness Reporting Tool (CART) to fill that need. He has continuously been updating and maintaining CART for at least 8 years.
