Andrea Paal is a Genomic Science Liaison at Quest Diagnostics, specializing in physician education for hereditary neurological disorders. Andrea supports clinicians by providing education to assist them in identifying patients at high risk for a hereditary condition, selecting the most appropriate genetic test based on their personal and family history, and counseling the patient appropriately regarding their genetic test results.
Prior to joining Quest Diagnostics in 2015, Andrea worked in a variety of clinical settings at Emory Healthcare and Wellstar Health System, both located in Atlanta, GA. During her career at Emory University, she was the Clinical Research Recruitment Coordinator for a study aimed at identifying SNPs associated with autism. In addition to patient recruitment, she developed resources for families of children with autism, including an online community for families to connect with one another. Andrea’s passion for patient advocacy has translated to Quest Diagnostics where she has developed relationships with a number of patient advocacy groups and provides medical education to their patient and physician communities. She also developed the first Adult Cardiogenetic Clinic in the state of Georgia and provided genetic counseling for patients with a variety of inherited cardiac disorders.
Andrea completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Purdue University, and received her Master of Science in Medical Genetics from the University of Cincinnati. Andrea is an active member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and the Co-Founder and past President of the Georgia Association of Genetic Counselors.
