Gordon Murphy

Gordon Murphy has extensive experience in the compliance and legal fields. Gordon most recently served as the Group Head of Compliance at Athora starting in July 2020. Prior to that, they worked at Aegon N.V. from December 2015 to July 2020 as a Senior Global Regulatory Compliance Specialist. Gordon also spent a significant portion of their career at Aegon, where they held various roles such as Vice President of Compliance and Operational Risk Management from February 2011 to November 2015 and VP Chief Compliance Officer from April 2000 to January 2011. Before joining Aegon, Gordon worked at Royal Sun Alliance from February 1996 to April 2000, focusing on litigation involving property and casualty insurance. Gordon began their legal career as a barrister and solicitor, specializing in insurance defense litigation, with two boutique firms in Toronto from March 1991 to January 1996.

Gordon Murphy pursued their undergraduate studies from 1982 to 1986 at the University of Toronto, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Honours. During this time, they focused on a double major in History and English. Subsequently, from 1986 to 1989, they attended Queen's University in Ontario, Canada, where they earned their LL.B. degree, specializing in Law.
