María José Cortés Loreto has diverse work experience in various companies and positions. María José began their career at Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas A.C. as an Assistant Researcher from March 2012 to July 2012. María José then worked as a Consultant at Cal y Mayor y Asociados, S.C. from September 2013 to December 2013. Following that, María joined Un Kilo de Ayuda A.C. as a Community Development Coordinator from March 2013 to June 2014.

In 2014, they moved to Tag Pipelines and held two roles: Sustainability and Community Relations Analyst from June 2014 to March 2016, and Sustainable Development and Community Relations Coordinator from March 2016 to February 2017. María then joined ENGIE in February 2017 as a Coordinator of Social Responsibility, and later became the Corporate Social Responsibility Manager from September 2017 to March 2019.

Lastly, María José Cortés Loreto is currently working at Atlas Renewable Energy as the Head of Environmental, Social & Governance/Health & Safety since March 2019.

María José Cortés Loreto's education history begins in 2008 when they enrolled at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. María José pursued a Licenciatura degree in Sociology and completed their studies in 2012. During their time at the university, they focused on the field of Sociología.

In 2010, María José Cortés Loreto took a brief opportunity to study abroad at the University of California, Santa Cruz. There, they pursued a B.A. degree with a dual focus on Sociology and Latin American and Latino Studies. María José'sstudies at UC Santa Cruz lasted for a single year before returning to their home university.

In addition to their formal education, María José Cortés Loreto has also obtained several certifications. In 2015, they received certification in the "Ley de Estados Unidos sobre Prácticas Corruptas en el Extranjero" (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act) from Squire Patton Boggs. In 2014, they obtained a certification in "Planificación Participativa, Hacia una Gestión Pública más Inclusiva" from Publicaciones de la CEPAL. Moreover, they obtained a Verified Certificate in "Gestión de Proyectos de Desarrollo" from edX, although the exact month and year of completion for the latter certification are not specified.
