Gavin Stokes

Gavin Stokes has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over several industries. Gavin is currently employed as the Principal Software Engineer at ATOMOS since October 2018. In this role, they are responsible for designing and implementing functionality and software for Atomos' line of recording devices and monitors. Gavin has also designed and built a Bluetooth-based remote-control application and a cross-platform application for video switching and graphics. Additionally, they played a key role in defining the API for the next generation of connected products at Atomos.

Prior to their current position, Gavin was the owner of Ambitious Productions since January 2008. During this time, they worked as a cinematographer, writer, editor, and software engineer, undertaking projects such as music videos, music-related documentaries, short films, and promotional videos for various clients, including Dave Stewart Entertainment, BMG Music, the City of Pasadena, and several musical artists.

In 2011, Gavin founded Stashpix LLC, where they served as the technical lead. Gavin'sresponsibilities included developing photography applications for mobile devices and writing all application and back-end components. Gavin also handled server-side logic, geographic calculations, and database access.

From 2010 to 2011, Gavin worked as a Software Engineer at RED Digital Cinema. Here, they designed and implemented embedded software and on-camera UI for Red's Academy Award-winning cameras. Gavin also made enhancements to Red's desktop applications and developed components for image processing in an Apple workflow.

Prior to RED Digital Cinema, Gavin worked at Apple from 2001 to 2010 as a Senior Software Engineer in the Pro Apps division. Gavin was involved in the design and implementation of features for Shake, a high-end film compositing application, and Final Cut Studio editing and motion-graphics software.

Gavin also has experience working at Autodesk as a Senior Software Engineer from 1999 to 2001. Additionally, they served as the Technical Lead at Melson Technologies / Quantra Corp. from 1996 to 1998, where they contributed to the software design and engineering of Skyline, a commercial real-estate management system. Gavin supervised a team of contractors for the development of the company's flagship product.

Furthermore, Gavin worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Senior Consultant from 1994 to 1995, and at Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) as a Senior Consultant from 1990 to 1994. At both organizations, they were involved in software design and development for large-scale applications in various industries, including manufacturing management, inventory control, and aerospace.

Gavin's work experience began in 1989 as a Reporter/Editor at the Naples Daily News, where they worked until December of the same year.

Gavin Stokes holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in journalism from Northwestern University. In 1993, they briefly attended DePaul University, with a focus on Computer Science. Gavin has obtained additional certifications such as Private Aircraft Pilot from the Federal Aviation Administration in 2006 and MRP and Inventory Control from APICS in 1994. Gavin also holds a certification as a PADI Divemaster from PADI, although the specific date of obtaining this certification is not provided.
