Group Lead - Systems Design at ATS Automation

Derek Goetz has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Derek started their career as a General Labourer at Elmira Foodland from 2006 to 2012. Derek then worked as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic at Blount from 2011 to 2012. Derek also had co-op positions as a Mechanical Design Co-op at Christie Digital Systems in 2010 and Babcock & Wilcox in 2010, where they were responsible for creating mechanical drawings and models. From 2011 to 2011, they worked as a Mechanical Design Co-op at Christie Digital Systems, focusing on CAD models and prints of custom metalwork. Derek then joined Linamar as an Automation Engineering Tech from 2012 to 2014, where they worked on automation upgrades and day-to-day maintenance. Afterwards, they worked at Systematix Inc. as an Electrician/Controls Integrator from 2014 to 2015, and later as a Controls Integrator from 2016 to 2020. Most recently, Derek worked at ATS Corporation, starting as a Systems Designer from 2020 to 2020, then as an Engineering Technologist and Tooling Technician from 2020 to 2021, and currently as a Group Lead - Systems Design since September 2022. Throughout their career, Derek has gained expertise in various areas including troubleshooting, tooling maintenance, PLC programming, HMI programming, and CNC programming.

Derek Goetz earned a Trade Certificate in Industrial Electrician from Conestoga College in 2015. Prior to that, they obtained a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology for Robotics and Automation from the same college from 2009 to 2011. Derek also attended Elmira District Secondary School from 2003 to 2008, where they studied Manufacturing, Music, Chemistry, and Math. In terms of additional certifications, Derek obtained a 442A Industrial Electrician certification from the Ontario College of Trades in 2015 and a Certified Engineering Technologist certification from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) in 2013.
