Manas Ray

Manas Ray has a diverse and extensive work experience in the biosciences and pharmaceutical industry. Manas currently holds the position of Head of Analytical at Aura Biosciences since 2022. Prior to that, from 2019 to 2022, they served as the Senior Director & Head of Analytical Sciences at Evelo Biosciences.

From 2016 to 2019, Manas worked at Pfizer as the Lead Director of Analytical R&D. Manas led a technical group of 40+ employees and was responsible for developing, qualifying, and implementing bioanalytical methods for the company's biosimilar portfolio. Manas also provided analytical support for process development and tech transfer.

Before joining Pfizer, Manas worked at Dr. Reddys Laboratories Ltd. from 2010 to 2016. Manas held two senior positions during this period, serving as the Senior Director and Head of CMC Regulatory & Quality, Product Development, and later as the Senior Director and Head of Quality Control and Analytical Sciences. In these roles, they managed regulatory dossiers, post-approval changes, and technical regulatory queries for biosimilar products.

In 2010, Manas briefly worked as a Principal Consultant at Excel BioSolutions LLC, providing technical consulting services to biotechnology companies and academic institutes.

Prior to that, they had significant roles at Shire Pharmaceuticals from 2006 to 2009, including Director, Analytical Development and Associate Director, Pharmaceutical and Analytical Development. Their responsibilities included managing analytical method development, qualification, and validation, as well as providing support for clinical trials and regulatory submissions.

In 2005, Manas was the Associate Director and Head of CMC Operation at Y's Therapeutics Inc, where they oversaw CMC activities and managed process development work.

Manas also gained experience at Bayer Healthcare from 1993 to 2004, serving in various roles including Associate Director and Head of the Quality Testing Group and Senior Staff Scientist in the Protein and Carbohydrate Characterization Laboratory. Their responsibilities included method development, validation, and release testing for pharmaceutical products.

Before joining the industry, Manas worked as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1988 to 1993, focusing on cell biology, biochemistry, and glycobiology.

Manas began their career in academia, working as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Calcutta from 1982 to 1988, conducting research in biochemistry and zoology. Manas held Junior and Senior Research Fellow positions in the Department of Biochemistry during this time.

Manas Ray's education history begins with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Calcutta, where they majored in Chemistry and also studied Physics and Mathematics. Manas then obtained a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University College of Science at the University of Calcutta. Following this, Manas pursued a PhD at the University College of Science and Technology at the University of Calcutta, specializing in Biochemistry. During this time, they also served as a Post-doctoral Research Associate.

Later, Manas attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where they worked as a Post-doctoral Associate. Here, they focused on Protein Glycosylation and CHO Cell Biology.
