Joseph D Smith

Joseph D Smith is a seasoned musician and educator with extensive experience in orchestral performance and music instruction. Currently serving as Concertmaster for Austin Opera since August 2004 and as a Violinist with the Austin Symphony Orchestra since August 2007, Joseph has demonstrated strong problem-solving and time management skills, contributing to both individual and ensemble success. As Orchestra Director at James Bowie High School from August 2019 to July 2023, Joseph effectively managed a comprehensive orchestra program, ensuring operational excellence across multiple ensembles. Prior roles include Associate Orchestra Director at the Liberal Arts & Science Academy and Music Teacher within the Austin Independent School District. Joseph holds a Bachelor's of Music Performance from The University of Texas at Austin and recently completed training at Flatiron School.
