Rich Oppel

Rich Oppel is an experienced media professional with a career spanning several decades in various editorial and leadership roles. Currently serving as Editorial Advisor at Austonia since February 2020, Rich has previously held significant positions at Texas Monthly as Editor-in-Chief Emeritus and Editor-in-Chief, as well as at Huston-Tillotson University as a Visiting Professor of Journalism and Communication and Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Notable past positions include Editor at Austin American-Statesman, Chief of Bureau at Knight Ridder Newspapers, and Editor for The Charlotte Observer and The Tallahassee Democrat. Rich's tenure at The Associated Press included roles as Chief of Bureau in Michigan and Correspondent-in-charge in Florida. Rich holds a B.A. in political science from the University of South Florida and an Advanced Management Program degree from Harvard Business School.
