Darren Harris has a comprehensive work experience in the sports industry. Darren has held various managerial positions in major sports organizations. In 2004, they started their career at the Australian Sports Commission and quickly moved up the ranks, becoming a Senior Manager responsible for overseeing a large team and managing a significant budget. Darren played a crucial role in the establishment and expansion of the Active After-school Communities program. In 2013, they served as Chief of Staff for the Victorian Minister for Sport & Recreation, Minister for Veterans' Affairs. During their tenure, they provided strategic advice and managed the Minister's office staff. Darren then worked as a Project Management Consultant at Hoot Sports Australia, where they developed and implemented strategic plans for the Sporting Schools program in collaboration with state netball associations. In 2016, they joined Cycling Australia as the General Manager of Sport. In 2017, they moved to the Essendon Football Club, where they held the position of General Manager for Community, Academies & Women's Football Development. Darren played a significant role in advancing women's football and community initiatives within the club. From 2020 to 2023, they worked at the Western United Football Club, first as General Manager for Community & Government Relations and then as General Manager for Community & Operations. Darren was responsible for overseeing the club's operations and establishing strong relationships with the community and government entities. Most recently, they joined the AFL - Australian Football League as the State League & Talent Pathways Manager.
Darren Harris holds a Master of Business degree in Sport Management from Deakin University. Prior to that, they pursued a Bachelor of Education degree in Physical Education from Federation University Australia.
