Sudeep Pillai

Sudeep Pillai has a range of experience in the field of machine learning and computer vision. Sudeep started their career as an R&D Engineer Intern at Segway in 2008. From 2009 to 2011, they worked as a Computer Vision Developer at PhaseSpace Inc., where they developed 3D computer vision and motion capture technologies. In 2014, Sudeep had a research internship in the Spatial Analysis team at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs (MERL), where they focused on developing 3D stereo reconstruction techniques for autonomous vehicles.

Moving forward, Sudeep joined the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) in 2011 as a Graduate Student. During their Ph.D., they worked on algorithms that enabled mobile robots to learn persistently in an environment from visual experience. Specifically, they focused on SLAM-aware, self-supervised perception and learning in mobile robots.

In 2017, Sudeep joined Toyota Research Institute (TRI) as a Research Scientist, where they spearheaded efforts in large-scale, self-supervised learning for autonomous driving. Sudeep also served as the Manager and Team Lead of the Machine Learning Engineering team at TRI, responsible for building and deploying state-of-the-art CV/ML models to Toyota's next-generation autonomous vehicles.

Recently, in 2021, Sudeep became an On Deck Deep Tech Fellow at On Deck. Finally, in 2022, they founded their own company, Stealth, putting their expertise and experience to use in their entrepreneurial journey.

Sudeep Pillai obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Computer Science (specializing in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Robotics) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 2011 to 2017. Prior to that, they also completed a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Computer Science from MIT from 2011 to 2014.

Before attending MIT, Sudeep Pillai pursued their undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from 2005 to 2008.

Sudeep Pillai completed their high school education at Sharjah Indian School, receiving a high school diploma between 1993 and 2005.

Lastly, Sudeep Pillai attended the University of California, Berkeley in 2006 for a Summer Sessions program, although no specific degree is mentioned for this period.
