Mark van Loon has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Mark worked as a (Senior) Supervision Officer at Autoriteit Financiële Markten, where their responsibilities included project and programme management, interacting with financial institutions, setting strategic and operational priorities, and developing assessment frameworks. Expanding their knowledge further, Mark pursued a Master of Science in Risk Management for Financial Institutions at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) from 2014 to 2016. During this time, they also gained expertise in LEAN Six Sigma, earning a Green Belt certification from the Dutch Central Bank in 2014.

In 2009, Mark briefly switched their focus to Law and Technology by enrolling in Tilburg University, where they obtained a Master of Laws qualification in 2010.

Additionally, Mark demonstrated their proficiency in finance by passing the level 1 exam of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program offered by the CFA Institute in 2012. However, they made the decision not to continue with level 2 enrollment.
